SIGHTS AND SANDS: Falmouth Beaches

When thinking of going to the beach, Cornwall locals and tourists will both agree that Falmouth offers some of the best beaches. Whether it is simply lounging in the sandy shores or engaging in numerous water sports, Falmouth boasts four beaches that continue to entice everyone who wants a combination of fun and relaxation while admiring the breath-taking views. Here’s a quick summary.

Castle Beach

Anyone can enjoy Castle Beach situated right alongside Pendennis Point. During low tide, the rocky sections of the beach are ideal for diving and snorkelling to explore the rich marine life. The rock pools, at low tide, on the other hand, lead to the golden sand and the beach actually joins small section known as Tunnel Beach (must explore it). The majority of Castle Beach is covered during high tide. Nevertheless, there are still numerous activities that friends and family can enjoy. It continues to be a destination among beach lovers.

Gyllyngvase Beach

Regarded as one of the most popular beaches in Falmouth, Gyllyngvase also boasts its Blue Flag Status. Families and friends enjoy their time together whether basking in the sun or frolicking in the waters. With soft golden sands, the beach is a perfect place for relaxation while admiring the fantastic views surrounding it. The café is also also a great alternative to lounging on the beach, good food and drinks. Another attraction of Gyllyngvase is its close proximity to Falmouth Town Centre, perfect for those who would like to do some more sightseeing and shopping.

Swanpool Beach

Swanpool beach is ideal for those who want to engage in water sports. Among the popular water activities include sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing. The beach also has bouncy castle on the beach during the summer and is perfect for the kids while the adults have their time of recreation and relaxation. It’s a small cove, with enough parking close by for an entire city (paid though).

Maenporth Beach

Characterized as a sandy cove, Maenporth Beach is best for sunbathing, rockpooling fishing, and boating. Everyone who enjoys spending time walking around the beach would appreciate Maenporth. Similar to Gyllyngvase sand, the beach is further from town and you’d need a car or bus to reach it.

Summertime is one of the most-awaited seasons for most people. It is during this time when all outdoor activities are planned so families and friends can come together to enjoy and have fun. While there are numerous activities that individuals and groups can explore, going to the beach continues to be the top choice for most people.
